Holy Jeez

One upon a time there was a piece called "Holy Jeez", written in 1992- the first piece I ever wrote for the United Women's Orchestra. It was quite a long piece (much longer than it is now) and was actually based on a school-exercise in metric modulation and altered harmony. After wrestling with it for a while, I eventually decided to split the piece in half: the first part is now called Mark IV" (yes indeed.. the final version is the fourth one!) and the piece we now call "Holy Jeez" has become our encore-anthem. We've never recorded it, but even after all these years we can't discard it either. And it's Janni's favourite piece, so there you go.

Line-up: ss, as, 2ts, bs, bcl. 4 tp, 3 tb, tba, pn, bs, dm.
Length: er... short. I'll let you know after we've recorded it.

The music starts as a tidy gospel-ish tune (owing quite a lot to Randy Brecker's "Threesome"- I freely admit to stealing good ideas). It then develops (well, disintegrates is probably a better word) into a song fit for a Newcastle football final. Not a bad way to end a concert.

Information about ordering the music can be found on the "contact" page- see link above.
