Bigband

Siringo Road

This piece tells a story, in several musical episodes. It begins as a flashy latin sax special in dialogue with percussion, then moves into a more mysterious latin feel (sort of bolero), inspired by Bauza's "Lourdes Lullaby". The conversations between the sections of the band lead into a more placid, half-tempo for the solos. A sax duet (included here both as pdf and mp3 files) forms the bridge to a more lively latin solo section, linking back to the first theme.
I've also included an mp3 clip of the sax intro.
It was written in 1996 and recorded in 1997 by The United Women's Orchestra on their second CD "The Blue One". The line-up is now standardized for the UWO, but there is also an extra alto sax part to add more spice, if available...

Original line-up: as/fl. as/cl, as, ts, ts/bcl, bs/fl, bcl. 4 tp, 3 tb, tba, pn, bs, dm.
Length: 10 minutes.

Information about ordering the music can be found on the "contact" page- see link above.

Siringo Road is in Santa Fé, in New Mexico. A friend told me of her stay there, and the regular bicycle journey through the mountains (of course, she's Dutch..) from home to the local post office to pick up her letters. Somehow the tempo-changes just seemed to fit.

This was one of the pieces commissioned by the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
