Bigband

The Tulip Wonder

I wrote this for the United Women's Orchestra in 1995, and It was recorded on the first CD in 1996.  I usually refer to the title as a hommage to Holland, but the musical inspiration actually came from the sax special in Thad Jones' "Tiptoe"....
...which hopefully explains the main theme of the piece. The UWO version features a bass clarinet solo, but this section is open.

I'm including .pdf and mp3 files of the basic theme and a .pdf with the last few pages of the score.

Original line-up: 2as, 2ts, bs, bcl. 4 tp, 3 tb, tba, pn, bs, dm.
Length: the cd version is short (4'30") but solos can stretch it..

This piece has been performed by several bands: there are versions for a 'normal' line-up (without the extra bass clarinet, bass trombone instead of tuba) and a feature for solo violin. A guitar part is also available.

Information about ordering the music can be found on the "contact" page- see link above.
