I nearly called it "Conversations with Igor". Stravinsky's music never
ceases to amaze me and this piece experiments with several of his musical
ideas.
Every ensemble consists of individuals with their own personalities
and opinions. This piece is a conversation between the different instruments.
A song-like flute/clarinet motief is answered by the somewhat cynical saxes,
the brass interrupt with a long-note statement. After this short round
of introductions, each group takes the time to present their ideas, with
added commentary, critical remarks or suggestions from the others, until
a collective conclusion is reached.
