The Bandleaders: Christina Fuchs (conductor, composer)
Saxophones, bass clarinet.
Born in 1963, Christina divides her time equally between playing and
composing, mainly for her own ensembles. Her style moves includes elements
from New Music, multi-media improvisation and Avantgarde-Jazz.Her most
recent compositions have been for Big Band.
"In my free-lance work as a composer I have always been attracted by
possibilities of linking other disciplines with music: speech, painting,
dance, theatre, film, sculpture, poetry, electronics, performance.. Each
discipline has its' own means of communication, which can be applied, structured
or motivated differently. Improvisation is a very direct form of communication
which I use as a compositional element, along with forms of "instant composing".
My written music is often based on a "time" theme which generates the piece:
structures which divide time to make it perceptible, to alter it; sounds
which modify our perceptions of time-space, spatial concepts which influence
our perception of time..."
