| Ineke van Doorn (voice,
live-electronics)
Ineke (Utrecht, NL) has been described as 'the adventurer among the Dutch jazz singers'. With her own trio 'Vandoorn', which she leads with guitarist Marc van Vugt, she has released 5 cd's with mainly original songs for which she writes the lyrics. The trio has performed a.o. in Canada, New York, Paris, Japan and Indonesia and she has recorded with a.o. Andy Sheppard, Robin Eubanks and Kenny Wheeler. In 2001 she won an Edison Jazz Award ('Dutch Grammy') for 'Love is a Golden Glue'. In 2002 Vandoorn took part in a project with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra directed by Vince Mendoza. Ineke sings and plays piano in the jazz chamber orchestra 'Marc van Vugt's Big Bizar Habit' with whom she released 3 cd's. She also has a duo with pianist Jeroen van Vliet. |

Julia Hülsmann (piano)
Born in Bonn in '68, Julia has lived in Berlin since '91, where she studied jazzpiano at the HDK music college with Walter Norris and Aki Takase. Her debut CD was released in 2000, featuring her own trio which was founded in '97 and has a repertoire of original compositions (Hülsmann/Muellbauer/Winch "Trio" BIT ). The CD "Scattering poems"(de Julia Hülsmann Trio with Rebekka Bakken, 2003, ACT 9405-2), featured settings of E.E.Cummings' poems, and reached 2nd place in the German Jazzcharts. The next CD will be released in February 2004 by ACT (Julia Hülsmann Trio met Anna Lauvergnac). Julia can also be heard as sidewoman in other bands, eg. Bajazzo with Pascal von Wroblewski, the Judy Niemack Band, Meike Goosmann Quintet and the Rolf von Nordenskjöld Big Band... |
| Ulla Oster (Cologne) Acoustic and electric doublebass
* 1956. A graduate of the Musikhoschschule Köln, Ulla has been playing in variety of bands since 1980, as well as leading her own projects "Beyond Janis" and "Abaptations". She has appeared in several festivals (Moers, Viersen, Vilshofen, Grenoble, Antwerpen, St.Petersburg a.o) and composed music for film and the theatre, including "Die Schamlosen" (ZDF). Since 1994 she has become more involved with electronic music, in a duo with Wollie Kaiser and with the band "Timeghost". |

Caroline Bigge (Berlin) Drums/percussion.
*1975.Studied first in Essen, before completing her study at the Arnhem conservatorium from 1994 to 2000 with Joop van Erven and Rene Creemers. Present activities include: as theatermusician (Neuköllner Oper Berlin), as bandmember of "venusbrass", as cabaret- accompanist (Schiffer/ Beckmann, WDR "Unterhaltung am Wochenende"), as instructor during drummermeetings (Paderborn/ Salzgitter with Chester Thompson and Adam Nussbaum), and bandworkshops (Rock sie, Frauenmusikbüro Hessen), as endorser for Yamaha, Paiste and beyerdynamic. |
| Hermine Schneider (Utrecht).
Studied trumpet at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. She plays in a wide variety of bands, such as ìPerfume de Salsaî, ìBrassed offî and in the theatre music-groups ìTimbilaî, ìDogtroepî and the theatre group Acto, ìinstituto Arte Dramaticaî in Portugal. Hermine also composes for film, theatre and bands in a wide variety of styles and has recently made her first film ëWaterproofí, a composition for image and sound. There is also a live concert to accompany the film: ëWaterproof Liveí. |

| Steffi Deckers (Saarbrücken)
*1976. By 1996 Steffi was playing in the Deutsche Bläserphilharmonie (until 2002) and went on to study Orchestermusik in Saarbrücken 2000-2003. Professors included Ralf "Mosch" Himmler and Georg Ruby . In 2001 she played lead-trumpet in the Saarland Landesjugendjazzorchester. In the same year she was also lead in the Saar-Lor-Lux-Bigband with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow. Steffi has appeared with many funk- and jazzbands, ao with Bill Ramsey and Ro Gebhardt. | Sabine Ercklentz (Berlin).
*1967, studied trumpet and popular music at the Hanns Eisler conservatory in Berlin. She also plays regularly with the salsa orchestra "Burundanga", the jazz sextet "Shoot the moon" and the jazz quartet "Sofamarone". She is also experimenting with extended techniques, combining trumpet with live-electronics in a duo with Andrea Neumann, writing compositions in the crossover area between tone and sound. |

Teddy Steen (Utrecht) Trombone
Studied jazz & Latin music at the Conservatories in Hilversum and Amsterdam, graduating in 1995. Teachers included trombonists Bart van Lier, Jiggs Whigham, Steve Turre and Dan Reagan. In 1996 she received a scholarship for studying trombone, composing and arranging in New York. Petra Krumphuber (Berlin) Trombone.
*1977. Studied jazz-trombone at the Bruckner Conservatorium in Linz, following workshops and classes with ao Hal Crook, Steve Turre, George Lewis, Han Bennink and Dave Douglas. Since1999 working free-lance in Berlin, playing in a wide variety of styles: jazz, salsa, klezmer, big band, theatre-music with the Berliner Ensemble and Musicals ("Pinkelstadt", "Cabaret"). Plays at the moment with Mi Solar (Salsa) Heavy Tuba (Tuba jazz), Brass de Luxe (20's Brass Band), Trioism (Jazztrio: gt-as-tb). Janni Struzyk (Berlin) Tuba
* 1970. Studied in Berlin (HfM Hanns-Eisler) and Weimar (HfM Franz Liszt). Has played with many orchestras, including years as a soloist with the Brandenburg Philharmonic Potsdam. Since 1999 she is soloist with the orchestra of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, where Wagner's "Ring" cycle will be performed in summer '03. Also in demand for studio work- mainly film music for cinema and TV. Since 2000 Janni has played more contemporary and experimental music, notably with the Ensemble Dezibell, the Horn-Tuba-Quintett Berlin, and the Duo pinx.- with percussionist Friedemann Werzlau and often DJ Hamil. She is also active as composer and producer of theatre music- a recent project was "Elizaveta Bam" by Daniil Charms in Berlin. |

* 1966. An active player in the Berlin jazz-scene, Meike studied jazz and pop at the "Hanns-Eisler" conservatoire in Berlin with a.o Volker Schlott, Gebhard Ullmann and Jiggs Whigham. She has appeared in concert and on international tours with a.o Gerhard Schöne, Anne Clark, Trio Choral Concert, Carlos Bica. * 1962. Completed her studies at the Amsterdan School of Arts in 1991 after which she moved to Frankfurt/Main, where she received a Frankfurter Jazz-Arbeitsstipendium in the same year. Has played with i.a Emil Mangelsdorf, Manfred Bründl, Vitold Rek, Marcus Becker, Adrian Mears and Norbert Scholly. Recorded for radio and TV with the Hessischen Rundfunk Big Band with Toots Thielemans, Benny Golson, Kenny Burrell, Ernie Watts and Ingrid Jensen. *1972. Studied jazzsax at the Arnhems Conservatorium with Stefan Pfeiffer and Jörg Kaufmann. Since then she has played with many bands in a huge variety of styles: from modern jazz, funk and soul to salsa, worldmuziek and free impro. She also teaches in several (music-) schools. | Eva Kruse (Berlin) Bass
*1978 Born in Hamburg, Eva studied bass in Berlin with Sigi Busch, Jerry Granelli and David Friedman, and in Göteborg (Sweden) with Anders Jormin. She has played with the quartet "Firomanum" a.o at festivals in Breslau 2000, Getxo/ Spanien 2001 and JazzBaltica 2002. The CD "Firomanum" (schönerhören) was released in 2003. She also plays with the "Arne Jansen Trio", with whom she recorded the CD "My Tree" on the Berlin label "Traumton Records" (release 2006) At present she is playing with the successful trio "[em]" with Michael Wollny and Eric Schaefer. | Annemarie Roelofs (Frankfurt) Trombone, basstrombone.
*1955, Amsterdam. Studied trombone and violin at the conservatorium in Amsterdam, where she also played with Henry Cow, Guus Janssen 7-tet and Maggie Nichols. She has been working in the German theatre since1979, and from 1984 with Cornelia Niemann in de cabaret-duo "Niemann and Roelofs". Besides a series of solo-performances Annemarie has several bands: "The Waste Watchers" with Johannes Krämer and Dirk Marwedel, the "Triple A"trombone trio with Annie Whitehead and Abbie Conant, and the duo Plenar/Roelofs with the pianist Elvira Plenar. |

Laia Genc (Cologne) Piano.
*1978. Has been living in Cologne since 2000, where she studied at the School of Music with Hubert Nuss and John Taylor. In 2004 she won the "Biberacher Jazzpreise" with her trio: the first CD with "Liaison Tonique" appeared on the JazzHausMusik label in 2005, after which she won prizes in Milan and Paris. In the "PyromanDuo" with clarinetist Annette Maye she combine traditional music with free Improvisation. Their first CD "Handle With Care" appeared in 2006 and they won first prize in the Italian competition TIM (Torneo Internationale Della Musica). Aimée Povel (NL) drums
*1975. Studied jazz-drums with Eric Ineke at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (NL) where she graduated cum laude in 2000 and with Joe LaBarbera (Bill Evans trio) in Los Angeles in 1999. Aimée has worked with Dave Liebman, Natasza Kurek, Wolfert Brederode, Gulli Gudmundsson, Susanne Abbuehl, Florian Zenker, Esmée Olthuis and Frans Elzen. Her own bands include "Yeast" which plays improvisational and contemporary music. Caroline Thon (Cologne) Saxophone.
*1966. Studied composition and saxophone in Cologne and at the Berklee College of Music (USA) Has toured in Germany, Austria, the USA and Russia (a.o supported by the Goethe Institute). Has taken part in TV and radio-productions for the WDR, VOX and Deutschlandfunk. Has played with Keith Copeland, Lee Konitz and Angelika Niescier. Won 1st prize in August 2000 in the composition competition in Helmond/ NL, and 1st prize in the band competition "Concours de Céramique" in Maastricht/NL with the band Five Spotz. |
| Viola Engelbrecht (Frankfurt/M) Trombone.
Studied music-pedagogy at the Goethe University and choirleading at the Conservatorium in Frankfurt. After three years of teaching (including courses at the Frankfurt Musikwerkstatt (School for Jazz, Rock & Pop) she was finally bitten by the bug and went on to study instrumental jazz-pedagogy and trombone at the Gutenberg University in Mainz. Since then she has been working as a free-lance trombonist, ensemble-singer and workshop-leader. Viola arranges and composes for her A cappella jazz-group "VokaLiesen". She also leads two choirs, writes and publishes popular choir-music. |

| Ina Gölzenleuchter (Essen) Trombone.
The Swedish/German Ina began her trombone-studies at the Amsterdam School for the Arts with Ben van Dijk and Erik van Lier, going on to Hamburg and Essen. After a stint with the Deutsch-Skandinavischen Jugendphilharmonie, she continues to free-lance in television shows (for the WDR and RTL) and modern opera. Co-founder of the duo "Posaune und Tanz" with Dagmar Stollberg, and the duo "Svenska Folksvisor" with Adrian Niegot, which features elements from traditional Swedish music and literature. More recent is her interest in Neue Musik: in 2005 she performed during the international festival for Neuer Musik in Zagreb. Other activities include playing with the Badischen Staatskapelle Karlsruhe and the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra. |

| Angelika Niescier (Cologne)
Soprano and alto saxes.
Described as "an extraordinary saxophonist" by the usually conservative German magazine "Jazzpodium", Angelika won the Dusseldorf music prize and since appeared with several jazz ensembles: with Henning Berg, Hans Lüdemann, Hartmut Kracht, Wolfgang Engstfeld/Peter Weiss, Frank Sichmann, Tom Lorenz and Andy Lumpp (to name but a few..). She is also active in the electronic Avantgarde, she writes theatre music, gives performances with litterateurs and visual artists and manages her own quartet "Angelika Niescier-sublim". Nancy Gildner (Wiesbaden) Trumpet
After working in Canada for several years as principal trumpet with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, performing and recording with names like the Toronto Symphony, the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company and teaching at the Lakehead University, Nancy moved to Germany in 1995. Since then she has played solo trumpet in many musicals, toured and recorded with Frankfurt's Ensemble Modern, appearing in the Salzburg, Turin and Frankfurt festivals. At present a member of the popular salon music group "Rosa Klassik", performing regularly in Europe and Canada. |

Helen Barsby (Berlin).
*1970. Graduated with a Bachelor in Music degree from the Victoria University (Wellington, New Zealand), and continued her studies in Detmold, Frankfurt (Germany), and in The Hague (Netherlands) where she specialised in baroque trumpet. At home in many different genres she has performed in orchestras (Les Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, in theatres (Göttingen, Detmold, Wiesbaden, Musical Theatre Stuttgart (Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast, Cats)), in chamber music with her quartet 'Brass Unlimited' (CD wb 2001), and since 2002 with 'Women in Brass' an all-female brass sextet (CD 'Brass Moments' 2005): www.womeninbrass.com. Annette Maye *1974 (Clarinet,
Bass clarinet)
After completing her degree in History, Musicology & Slavic studies she went on to study jazz-clarinet at the Conservatoires of Cologne and Paris. Won the SWR Worldmusic Prize in 1998 with her Oriental Jazz-Ensemble "FisFüz". Since then Annette has worked with many ensembles (PyromanDuo, Schäl Sick Brass Band, James Choice Orchestra) and has toured extensively, making appearances on international radio & TV.
